INSTALLATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGE POINTS - LEVEL 3 AWARD

This course is aimed at qualified and practicing electricians, who wish to continue their professional development in the field of electric vehicle charging design and installation. The course provides detailed understanding of how to design and install a range of domestic and small scale commercial electric vehicle equipment and systems.

The qualification covers additional methods of protecting against open PEN conductor faults and any issues with diverted neutral current. It also covers smart functions in EVSE and relevant items within the installation as a whole.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations including: 

- Statutory and non-statutory documents relating to selection, installation and commissioning of EVC equipment and traffic regulation orders

- Differing types and features of EVC equipment; modes, charging connections and charging equipment

- Assessment methods and approaches prior to installation and methods of protection

- Requirements for inspection and testing, commissioning and handover of EVC equipment and circuits

- Energy storage systems as part of prosumer’s installations; vehicle grid services, island mode operation and smart charging

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught on campus, in the newly renovated Construction Skills Centre, in purpose-built workshops, where you will utilise small scale demonstration units, incorporating installation and testing.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The knowledge requirements will be tested through an online multiple-choice test and the practical requirements will be assessed through an assignment.

  • One online multiple-choice test (duration 45 minutes) - 75% pass rate required
  • Submission of one assignment using short answer and scenario-based questions (duration 90 minutes) - 75% pass rate required

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

In order to undertake this course, you must be a practicing Electrician and will have to provide evidence of one of the following:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (2357)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) (2357)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (5357)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker (2356)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346)
  • Placeholder for City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification (2347)
