Develop the skills and confidence to help others learn, grow and perform at their best.

This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for team leaders, first-line managers and professionals who are new to coaching and mentoring or want to bring a more structured approach to developing others.

You will explore coaching and mentoring principles, models and techniques, developing your ability to listen actively, ask purposeful questions and hold constructive workplace conversations.

Practical experience and reflection will also help you build effective coaching and mentoring relationships and improve your own approach.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Through this qualification, you will develop your understanding of coaching and mentoring and how to apply them in your day-to-day role.

You will complete the following three units:

  • Principles of coaching and mentoring
  • Coaching and mentoring extended practice
  • Reviewing to improve your own coaching or mentoring practice

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

This qualification is delivered at Preston College, giving you dedicated time away from your day-to-day role to focus on your coaching and mentoring development.

Through tutor-led sessions, discussion, practical activities and shared learning with others, you will explore different approaches and build confidence in your coaching and mentoring skills. You will put your learning into practice through coaching and mentoring activities in your workplace between taught sessions.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will complete assessment activities and build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your understanding, practical skills and ability to reflect on and improve your coaching and mentoring practice.

As part of the qualification, you must undertake and record a minimum of 12 hours of effective coaching and mentoring, working with at least two and no more than three individuals.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Successful completion of this course can support your development as a team leader, manager or mentor, helping you take a more effective approach to supporting others. 

You can also progress to the ILM Effective Coaching and Mentoring at Level 5, or explore further study in leadership and management, including the use of AI in Leadership Practice.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You will need access to individuals you can coach or mentor to complete the practical requirements of this course. Before enrolling, consider how you will arrange these opportunities and allow time for coaching and mentoring sessions, recording evidence and completing assessments alongside your taught sessions.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will complete a Skills Scan before starting the programme to ensure the qualification is appropriate for your experience and development needs.

You should have opportunities to undertake coaching or mentoring responsibilities in your workplace and be able to meet the practical requirements of the course. This qualification is particularly suitable for those new to coaching and mentoring, as well as team leaders, first-line managers and professionals looking to develop a more structured approach.
