Preston College take WorldSkills UK by storm
Preston College learners are taking the WorldSkills UK competition by storm after reaching the semi-finals in four categories.
From the School of Service Industries, two Level 2 hairdressing learners, Amy Banks and Jasmine Youles, have made it through to the regional heats in the Hairdressing category, whilst from the School of Visual and Performing Arts there are semi-finalists in three categories: Creative Media Make-Up, IT Software Solutions for Business and IT Software Solutions for Business: Foundation Skills.
Amy says: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out. I came into college and my friends were excited and asking me to check my email straight away for confirmation that I had made it through. I was so surprised.”
Theatrical Make-Up Artist and tutor Lisa Anderson says:
“The students have been working so hard and developing the skills that they need to be a success in this industry. 11 of my students have made it through to the semi-final. I’m so proud of them and can’t wait to see their creations in the next round.”
IT learners from Level 1 and Level 3 made it through to the next round in the IT Software Solutions for Business category. Learners, Jessica Mercer-Taylor, Mohammed Shahid, Ammar Al-Mohamidi and Thomas Taylor demonstrated their technical knowledge and were tested on a range of skills including problem solving, presentation, and analytical skills.
Head of School for Visual & Performing Arts, Jane Tudor added:
“It is absolutely fantastic that our students have made it through to the semi-finals at WorldSkills UK, it is a testament to their talent and hard work. They are supported by dedicated and passionate staff, who want nothing more than to see them succeed.
These competitions are a great way to showcase what we do and I’m so proud of every one involved.
This news follows on from our recent wins in the Educate North Awards (Performing Arts Award) and the National Operatic and Dramatic Association Awards – we are truly taking the world by storm at the minute.”
