The construction industry is essential for our local economy and has been identified as a priority sector for Lancashire.
Currently, there is a huge skills shortage in the construction industry, with the industry being placed in the top five sectors requiring employees, due to sector growth, from 2018-2028. This high demand for skilled people is also reflected in the generous starting salaries, with university graduates often earning an average salary per year of over £29,000 and a Site Manager, an average of over £49,000 per year.
Right on our doorstep, the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal is investing more than £434million, creating 20,000 new jobs and building 17,000 new homes to improve the county. Construction companies across Lancashire will seek highly skilled people to fill a range of in demand roles.
Construction is a lifelong career and will give you many opportunities. At Preston’s College you can study the HNC in Construction, the HNC in Civil Engineering and from September 2021, the HNC Construction and the Built Environment (Building Services Engineering), allowing you to develop already existing skills, as you climb the ladder into Management positions.
