The expanding economy and a key priority for Lancashire means more opportunities are available in the Construction industry for people with suitable skills. The Level 2 Certificate in Bricklaying is ideal for anyone already holding a Level 1 qualification, looking to progress their skills in this specific area of construction. The course builds upon the skills developed at Level 1 and provides the additional skills and knowledge needed to progress onto further study or into employment.
You do not need to be working in industry to undertake the qualification, as the qualification enables you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding within the realms of the training environment.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
As part of the Level 2 Bricklaying course you will study a range of modules, including:
Working in the Construction Industry
Developing Brickwork Bond Skills
Building Brick and Block Walls
Improving Own Learning and Performance
The nature of the Level 2 Bricklaying course means that this is a very practical programme, with classroom learning making up just 10% of the course. As a result, there are no assignments or exams to complete on this course, instead, all learners must complete written questions throughout the year and produce practical models, to industry standard, to pass.
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
As a bricklaying learner at Preston’s College, you will perfect your skills in a large, purpose built bricklaying workshop. The workshop replicates a live, working environment, providing a real flavour of what life on site is like.
In the workshop, all learners have a dedicated, personal work space for the duration of their programme, where most of the teaching time is spent - this is a highly practical course with 90% of time being spent in the workshop. As well as other Level 2 learners, level 1 learners and apprentices may also be in the workshop at the same time, due to the vast size, meaning all learners get to experience what life on a busy site is like.
Due to the departments fantastic connections with industry, many companies often approach Preston’s College seeking work experience learners and all adult learners are given the same opportunities to access these chances, should they arise.
As our on-site facilities reflect industry working practices, you will be required to purchase and wear suitable PPE, including work boots and overalls. You should also expect to wear old clothes as bricklaying can be a messy job!
