Every project needs to be managed to ensure its success! An associate project manager knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost, and works with the project team to achieve the required outcomes. Associate project managers need good planning, organisation, leadership, management and communication skills.
On this higher apprenticeship standard, you will learn a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours to enable you to work in a project management environment. The course is suitable for new recruits and existing employees who wish to develop project capability within their organisation. In total there are 17 Learning Areas defined by the apprenticeship and the course content includes:
Knowledge: Project governance, stakeholder management, project communication, leadership, consolidated planning, estimating, budgeting and cost control.
Skills: Quality control, scheduling and resource management, scope management and change control.
Behaviour: Leadership, drive for results, collaboration and teamwork, integrity, ethics, compliance and professionalism.
This apprenticeship will be delivered on a day release once a month. This will be at Preston College.
Apprentices will be supported through regular workplace visits and reviews of progress and learning.
You will be fully supported throughout your learning experience. Assessments comprise of a mixture of course work, a written exam, workplace assessments and reviews. The end point assessment (EPA) will be carried out by an independent assessment organisation and consists of a presentation and professional discussion supported by an e-portfolio of evidence. Apprentices are also required to achieve level 2 qualifications in English and Maths prior to completion of the apprenticeship, or to hold GCSEs in these subjects on entry to the course.
Following successful completion of the programme will give you the skills, knowledge and behaviours to confidently complete the role of Associate Project Manager within your organisation. There may also be progression opportunities onto a degree apprenticeship programme.
During the apprenticeship you will be eligible for free student membership of the Association for Project Management (APM) and can progress to associate membership upon successful completion of the apprenticeship. Full membership and chartered status can be attained through further qualification, experience and professional development.
Individual employers will set their own entry requirements for apprentices. Typically candidates will have achieved a pass in five GCSEs including English and Maths, (or be willing to complete level 2 Functional Skills qualifications during the programme).
Holding a level 3 qualification would be useful but it is not essential for entry to the programme. All apprentices will be invited to attend an informal advisory interview with the Work Based Tutor prior to commencing the course.
