Rosalyn – Supporting Teaching and Learning Levels 2 and 3

Rosalyn made the decision to return to education in 2018, seeking a career that would fit around her four children, having tragically lost her husband.

Joining the Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2 course, Rosalyn quickly settled into college life and, as part of the course, benefited from an extended work experience placement in a school setting, where she was able to experience first-hand the role of a Teaching Assistant.

Crediting the course with helping to improve both her confidence and self-esteem, alongside providing invaluable skills and knowledge, Rosalyn said:

“Returning to college in 2018 was a big step for me, as, like most adults, I had been away from education for some time. However, any concerns quickly disappeared and I found my tutor to be incredibly helpful in supporting with both in-class and placement work.”

Progressing through the course, Rosalyn had regular visits from her tutor whilst on placement. Impressing the school with her enthusiasm, skills and natural flair so much, Rosalyn was offered employment upon successful completion of her course!

Keen to continue learning, Rosalyn decided to return to Preston’s College in September 2019 to study on the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning programme, a qualification that provides opportunities to apply for higher level roles with additional responsibilities.

Despite studying and working through a challenging global pandemic, Rosalyn successfully completed the course this year, having built some fantastic relationships with both her tutors and peers. Commenting, she said:

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Preston’s College. I have made some wonderful friends, many of whom are a lot younger than me. These friendships have made me feel young again and have all helped me to greatly improve my confidence. I now believe in myself and if I want to do something in the future, I am just going to do it! I really will miss what has become my Preston’s College family, especially my tutor.”
