Safeguarding Week at Preston College

This week, our students took part in a powerful series of sessions designed to help them stay safe, make informed choices, and understand the world around them.

One highlight was Braking Point, an interactive theatre experience that challenged students to think about the responsibilities of being a young driver or passenger. The performance explored:

🚗 Distracted driving (music, phones & conversation)
🤝 Peer pressure and passenger responsibility
⚠️ The dangers of speed & alcohol
🔗 The importance of seatbelts

This impactful session encouraged our young people to recognise risky situations and make safer decisions on the road.

We also welcomed several visiting organisations who delivered eye-opening talks on key safeguarding issues:

🏠 Emmaus – raising awareness of homelessness and how the charity supports those in need.
🔐 Safenet – discussing online stalking, sexting, and peer-on-peer abuse.
🌃 Preston Street Pastors – sharing how they keep people safe in the city centre after 10pm.
🌍 Claire Rimmer – providing facts to challenge myths about asylum seekers and refugees.
💪 VAWG Police Initiative – offering self-defence sessions and discussing violence against women and girls.

Safeguarding Week is an annual event at Preston College, dedicated to educating and empowering our students to look after themselves and support others. We’re proud to create a culture where safety, respect, and awareness come first.
