This role sits within the Compliance and HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment & Quality) department at R.P. Tyson Construction Ltd, supporting the delivery of high standards across our projects and business operations. 

Working closely with the HSEQ Manager and colleagues across the company, the apprentice will help ensure that our work is carried out safely, responsibly and in line with external accreditations and internal procedures.

The apprentice will gain hands-on experience working with compliance systems such as ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental), as well as industry accreditations including ConstructionLine and CHAS. This is a practical and varied role where the apprentice will support real projects while learning the foundations of compliance, document management, health & safety processes and continuous improvement.

DUTIES

Day-to-Day Duties Will Include:

Compliance and Accreditation Support

• Assisting with maintaining and updating company compliance records and documentation.

• Supporting the preparation and renewal of key accreditations such as ISO standards, ConstructionLine and CHAS.

• Helping gather evidence and organise paperwork for internal and external audits.

• Updating policies, procedures and manuals under supervision.

 

Health & Safety File and Project Support

• Collecting and organising site documentation such as risk assessments, method statements and certificates from subcontractors and project teams.

• Assisting in producing Health & Safety Files and Operation & Maintenance Manuals for project handovers.

• Ensuring documentation is accurate, complete and stored correctly.

 

Training and Compliance Records

• Keeping staff training records up to date.

• Assisting in scheduling training sessions and monitoring training expiry dates.

• Helping ensure all staff have required certifications for their roles.

 

Data & Administration

• Supporting the day-to-day running of compliance databases and digital filing systems.

• Entering data and preparing reports for management review.

• General administrative duties to support the HSEQ team and wider business.

 

Teamwork and Communication

• Liaising with internal teams, site staff, suppliers and subcontractors to collect accurate compliance information.

• Promoting a positive culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.

• Working closely with the HSEQ Manager and other project and office teams.

WORKING HOURS PER WEEK

37.5hrs per week 9am to 5pm, 30mins unpaid lunch

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Good organisational and administration skills.

• Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams).

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Willingness to learn new systems, procedures and software.

• Confidence to liaise with colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors.

• Ability to manage time and prioritise workload.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ideally GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths.

• A business, construction, or IT-based qualification (e.g. T Level, BTEC) is desirable but not essential.

• Applicants without the required Maths or English may be supported to achieve these alongside the apprenticeship.

Upon successful completion, the apprentice may progress into roles such as:

• There is a clear development pathway within the company, with opportunities for further professional training in ISO Management Systems, HSEQ certifications and potentially progression into Compliance Lead or HSEQ roles.
