Annual Poster Conference Success for Preston College Teacher Trainees
Tuesday 28th March 2023 saw our Year 2 trainee teachers and professionals working in the Further Education and Skills/Post 14 sector, come together at the Annual Academic Poster Conference, which was hosted at Preston College.
At the conference, our trainee teachers, were tasked with designing posters to highlight the key challenges facing the sector and the wider teaching profession, and to identify the best ways to respond to them.
Each trainee, identified a topic relevant to their particular teaching situation, whilst considering current philosophies and policies within the post-14 sector and presented their findings and professional insights as part of their studies on the evening.
A range of perspectives in education and training were highlighted, and the strategies adopted by the sector discussed, whilst considering their constraints, opportunities and innovations, as well as strengths and limitations.
Topics areas included:
- Educational reforms (policies) and social context
- Mental health and wellbeing
- SEND
- Levelling up and the role of FE
- Quality assurance and compliance
- Equality
- Funding
- Ofsted
- The history/context of the FE sector
- Safeguarding
- Education for sustainable development
- Decolonising the curriculum
The evening drew to a close with trainees recommending best practice techniques for teachers to adopt to ensure quality of experience for all learners and their progress.
Event organiser and Teaching, Learning & Assessment Quality Improvement Leader Programme Leader for PGCE/Cert Ed, Kerry Murby said, “We are very proud of what our trainees have achieved. The trainees have been fortunate to benefit from the knowledge and expertise from a range of speakers, who perform key roles within our college and the wider FE sector, including UCLan and the AOC. Following the endorsement of our Vice Principal Mick Noblett, we look forward to sharing the trainees’ research and knowledge with staff across the College during our staff development activity in July”.
