ADVANCED AND CREATIVE HAIR PROFESSIONAL

Duration: 18 months

Level: Level 3

When you begin working in a salon, you’ll not only earn a wage but also gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced, creative environment. As part of your training, you'll attend college on a fortnightly basis, where you'll study towards a recognised qualification in hairdressing or barbering. This combination of on-the-job learning and structured education ensures you develop both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

As a member of the service industry, you’ll have the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people, build strong relationships with regular clients, and develop your communication and customer service skills. Over time, you'll progress to delivering more advanced treatments, including precision cutting, hair colouring, styling for special occasions, and more. You’ll also gain insights into client consultation, health and safety practices, and salon management.

Working in a salon is not only about developing technical expertise, it’s also about becoming part of a vibrant, people-focused profession where creativity and personal interaction are at the heart of everything you do.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Throughout your training, you'll learn how to find your unique niche within the hairdressing industry and how to think outside the box. You'll focus on creatively styling, cutting, and colouring hair including advanced techniques such as colour correction, while developing a deeper understanding of each area.

You’ll also gain in-depth knowledge of essential skills like client consultation, allowing you to tailor your services to individual needs and build lasting client relationships.

One of the highlights of your training will be the opportunity to design and present your own themed collection of looks. This project gives you the chance to showcase your creativity, express your personality, and demonstrate the skills you’ve developed.

Throughout the programme, you’ll be supported and mentored by both your tutor and your employer. This ongoing guidance will help you build confidence and prepare you thoroughly for your End-Point Assessment (EPA), ensuring you're ready to take the next step in your professional journey.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Upon completion, you will have developed the skills and knowledge to work competently in the industry. You could also progress onto a Barbering apprenticeship.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

The hairdressing industry is competitive and relies on repeat customers. To be successful you will need the following: appropriate personal presentation, good social and organisational skills, an amicable nature, good sense of humour, willingness to work flexible hours/days and good communication skills.

You will need to wear your salon uniform when attending college.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All Apprenticeships require an initial assessment, interview and employment in the industry. You will need a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing in order to progress onto the Level 3 programme. You will need to have good people, dexterity and communication skills as well as a desire to work professionally with the general public.
