This qualification is designed for you if you are looking to develop advanced bookkeeping skills within your current role, or looking to progress to higher-level accountancy study.
You will build the knowledge and expertise neede to complete complex bookkeeping transactions, while gaining a solid understanding of advanced bookkeeping principles and concepts. This includes exploring key areas such as indirect tax, the preparation of financial statements, and business considerations realting to payroll and VAT.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This qualification comprises of two units:
Financial Accounting
Preparing financial statements
Final accounts preparation
advanced double-entry bookkeeping
Acquisition and disposal of non-current assets
Recording depreciation calculations
Producing and extending trial balance
Financial statements for sole traders and partnerships
Interpreting financial statements using profitability ratio’s
Tax processes for businesses
Legislation requirements relating to VAT
Reviewing and verifying VAT returns
Principles of payroll
Reporting information with the organisation
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
You will be taught using a blended learning approach, combining in-class tuition with guided independent study to support your learning and development.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Each module is assessed by a computer-based assessment, issued and marked by AAT. The assessments are undertaken at Preston College under controlled conditions:
Duration of assessments:
Unit one: 2 hours, 30 minutes
Unit two: 1 hour, 30 minutes
To achieve the qualification and be awarded a grade, you must pass all mandatory assessments. You will be awarded an overall qualification grade (pass, merit or distinction). To pass the qualification you will require a minimum pass rate of 70% or above, representing a high level of competence.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Upon successful completion of this qualification, you will have developed the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress to higher-level accounting qualifications, or you may choose to move into industry. Potential career pathways include roles such as Professional Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper, Accounts Manager, or Ledger Manager.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
You are required to purchase a set of AAT textbooks and a calculator.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To enrol on this course, you will need to have previously achieved a Level 2 bookkeeping or accounting qualification, along with maths and English at GCSE grade 4 (C) or Functional Skills Level 2.
As part of the admissions process, you will also be required to complete an accounting skills assessment.
