INTERMEDIATE CROCHET

Duration: 10 weeks

This intermediate crochet course is designed for students who have mastered the basic crochet stitches and techniques and are ready to expand their skills. The course provides an opportunity to build confidence, develop greater creativity, and tackle more complex crochet projects. 

Whether crocheting for personal enjoyment, creating handmade gifts, or considering a small craft business, this course offers a host of benefits including:

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

On this course, you will create a sampler blanket and develop a wide range of crochet techniques and finishing skills.

You will learn:   

  • Review and strengthen core crochet skills, including gauge, tension, yarn selection, and pattern reading
  • Explore a variety of stitch patterns and construction methods, such as:
    • Textured rib stitches
    • Shell and fan patterns
    • Bobble, puff, and popcorn stitches
    • Basketweave textures
    • Lace crochet and colourwork techniques
    • Motif construction
  • Build confidence in advanced techniques, including front and back post stitches, crochet cables, textured stitch combinations, and working in the round
  • Learn to read and follow more complex patterns while maintaining consistent sizing across the project
  • Develop professional finishing skills, including:
    • Blocking
    • Joining methods
    • Border construction
    • Weaving in ends
    • Presenting a finished project

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught in a classroom with a tutor who has been crocheting for more than 15 years. Each crochet square will be started during the taught session with students completing at home if necessary.  

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There are no formal assessments on this course. However, in week 10, students will take part in a showcase where they can present their completed projects.

£120

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

After completing the course, you will be able to build on your skills to create more complex projects and progress to advanced crochet techniques. You may choose to produce and sell your work online or at craft fairs.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You will need to bring yarn in a weight and colour of their choice, along with an appropriately sized crochet hook. You will also need stitch markers, scissors, and a yarn needle.

A notebook and pen or pencil are also recommended for making notes and recording ideas.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You should have a good understanding of basic crochet stitches, including chain stitch, double crochet, treble crochet, and slip stitch, and be able to work these with confidence.

An Introduction to Crochet course is also available for those who are new to these techniques.
