This course is ideal for those who have a keen interest in hairdressing and would like to develop their technical skills in preparation for working in a salon environment.

You will cover a range of modules that will help you develop strong practical skills in working with hair and strong social and communication skills.

This course is the ideal platform for progression to Level 2 in Hairdressing at Preston College.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Introduction to the Hair Sector
Health & Safety
Promotion of Hair Products
Blow Drying Hair
Winding Hair
Shampoo & Condition Hair
Plaiting Hair
Colouring Hair Using Temporary Colours

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

As a trainee stylist at Preston College, you will have access to Elements, our onsite, bespoke Hairdressing salon. This realistic working environment is the ideal place for you to perfect your skills and confidence. Our salons are fully stocked with the equipment and supplies that you need to successfully achieve your qualification.

Experienced hairdressing tutors will provide practical demonstrations and specialised support so that after a period of training you can be assessed on training heads and live models. You will also learn how to work as a team, with fellow learners and develop skills in positive communication and selling.

Some written work is needed to help you fully understand the techniques and products. For this, you will produce task sheets and project briefs. There are no formal examinations attached to this qualification.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress to the Level 2 in Hairdressing qualification at Preston College. Alternatively you could apply for the Level 2 Apprenticeship - Hair Professional.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

We aim to provide a programme of study that is engaging and exciting. Our enrichment offer includes competitions, external guest speakers and visits to hairdressing related events.

You will be required to wear black clothing and comfortable, covered shoes in the salon environment.

You will be provided with all other equipment and products that you need.

Learners will need to attend an interview showing their interest in the subject and a willingness to learn.
