Delivered by highly qualified tutors with extensive industry knowledge, the Level 2 Hairdressing course at Preston’s College is a cut above the rest. With two commercial training salons based on campus, this course will allow you to gain the skills you need using industry standard products and facilities that you could expect to find in any high street salon. In addition to gaining fundamental skills in hair care, colouring and cutting, you will also have the opportunity to work on community based projects which will enhance your customer service and communication skills.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Units of Study: Shampoo and conditioning; Blow drying hair; Prepare and maintain salon areas; Basic hair colouring techniques; Basic hair cutting techniques; Styling and finishing techniques and Client consultation.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will have both theory and practical sessions. In theory, you develop your knowledge while in practical sessions you will work with practice heads and real clients to develop your technical skills. Some modules will be delivered online remotely.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?

You will be expected to provide some of your own clients for assessments and complete tasks to commercial time scales. Opportunities exist for entry into national competitions, gaining specialist professional certificates and visiting trade shows and exhibitions. You will need a uniform (approximately £50) and a hairdressing kit (approximately £150).

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

You may progress to the Level 3 Hairdressing course at Preston’s College. You may also consider expanding your skills by studying Beauty Therapy at Level 2 or Barbering. Alternatively you could seek employment as a Level 3 Hairdressing Apprentice or as a Junior Stylist.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You will be expected to provide some of your own clients for assessments and complete tasks to commercial time scales. Opportunities exist for entry into national competitions, gaining specialist professional certificates and visiting trade shows and exhibitions. You will need a uniform (approx. £40) and a hairdressing kit (approx. £160). You can apply for a college bursary to help with the costs of equipment and kit. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English Language and maths or a Level 1 Diploma in Hair & Beauty. You will also need communication and dexterity skills, and a desire to work with the general public.
