PLASTERING - LEVEL 2

Duration:
Level: Level 2
Last Updated: 23-07-20

The Level 2 in Plastering is ideal for anyone already holding a Level 1 qualification looking to progress their skills in this specific area of construction. You do not need to be working in industry to undertake the qualification, as the qualification enables you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding within the realms of the training environment.

You will study a range of modules from floating and skimming, dry lining and rendering external work to producing fibrous plasterwork and floor screedings, as you build upon the skills and knowledge achieved at Level 1.

Successful completion of the course will allow you to progress into employment or onto a higher level course.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

As part of the Level 2 Plastering course you will study a range of modules, including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Understanding Construction Technology
  • Communication in the Construction Industry
  • Rendering External Work
  • Floating and Skimming
  • Dry Lining
  • Plastering to Plasterboard
  • Producing Fibrous Plasterwork
  • Fixing Fibrous Plasterwork
  • Floor Screeding/Laying
  • Floor Screeds to Flat and Fall

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

As a plastering learner at Preston’s College, you will perfect your skills in purpose built workshops consisting of 10 work bays, with 40 set out spaces, allowing all learners to have a dedicated, personal workspace that is reflective of industry. The workshops, part of the wider construction department, replicate a live, working environment, providing a real flavour of what life in industry is like. In addition, the vast majority of time on the course is spent in the workshops, as this is a highly practical course.

The size of the workshops allow a range of learners and apprentices to often work together, meaning all learners get to experience what life in industry will be like, whilst also seeing a variety of work levels.

The course aims to stimulate a real life environment that will test and challenge plastering skills, with work experience opportunities, guest speaker presentations and demonstrations from organisations such as British Gypsum and Wetherby’s, alongside local trips and visits also making up part of the programme. There are also opportunities to compete in local and national competitions, such as the CITB organised Skillsbuild.

As our on-site facilities reflect industry working practices, you will be required to purchase and wear suitable PPE, including work boots and overalls or clothes that you do not mind getting dirty – plastering is a messy job!
