WELDING - LEVEL 1 AWARD (MIG, TIG, MMA)

Duration: 3 hours per week
Level: Level 1

This Level 1 Award is ideal for beginners and those with some welding experience who want to build their skills in MIG, TIG, and MMA, gain a recognised qualification, and progress within the fabrication and welding industry.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

On this course you will select the welding technique of your choice:

  • Manual Metal Arc (MMA) Welding
  • Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding
  • Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

To successfully pass the course, five practical assignments, consisting of welding joints in simple positions (horizontal) and one oral knowledge test must be passed, with successful completion evidencing an individual’s competence in their chosen welding method.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Completion of a technique provides opportunities to progress onto another welding process at Level 1.

Successful completion of the Level 1 techniques enables individuals to progress onto the more advanced Level 2 Award in Welding at Preston College.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

All learners studying on a Level 1 Award in Welding are required to wear appropriate PPE at all times, including steel toe cap boots and flame retardant overalls. Costs will vary but both of these items will need to be purchased and brought to your first class.
