The Level 1 Plumbing course at Preston College provides an ideal introduction to this sought after trade, whilst offering ample opportunities to perfect newly learnt skills in large, purpose built workshops. Studying a range of modules from pipework, installation, maintenance and repair to plumbing science and electrical wiring and termination, the course offers the essential skills and knowledge required to progress onto higher level programmes.
As part of the Level 1 Plumbing course you will study a range of modules, including:
As a plumbing learner at Preston College, you will perfect your skills in practical workshops consisting of four purpose built bays, which include a toilet system set up, basins and hydraulic bench, all of which are used throughout the course to practice and develop specific abilities.
Learners are encouraged to work together to complete set tasks, with the course comprising of 50% practical work and 50% theory.
The workshops, part of the wider construction department, replicate a live, working environment, providing a real flavour of what life in industry is like, with the course aiming to test and challenge plumbing skills, whilst providing progression opportunities.
As our on-site facilities reflect industry working practices, you will be required to purchase and wear suitable PPE, including work boots and overalls or clothes that you do not mind getting dirty – plumbing can be a messy job!
A mix of practical assessments and written work.
Work boots must be worn in the workshop. All other PPE will be provided for you – or they can be purchased through the College if you wish.

Successful completion of the course provides progression opportunities onto the Level 2 Plumbing course at Preston College.
The nature of the Level 1 Plumbing course means that whilst this is a very practical programme, there is theory behind the practical that has to be learnt. As a result, learners can expect to spend 50% of their time undertaking practical tasks and 50% of their time in the classroom.

There are no set entry criteria for this course but you must demonstrate an interest in developing both plumbing skills and theory. An adequate level of English is also required.
