The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) course is designed for learners aged 19 and over who wish to progress to university to study a science related degree course but do not hold the current level 3 qualifications needed for entry.
The course allows you to study the key foundations in Biology and Chemistry, alongside key academic writings skills and techniques, that prepare you for degree level study.
Upon successful completion, many students progress onto undergraduate level study at their university of choice or step into higher-level roles within the sector.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
The theory modules are classroom based and practical activities and investigations will take place in our state-of-the-art laboratories alongside industry experienced tutors.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed through a variety of written and online assignments (80%) and seen examinations (20%). Each module will employ a method of assessment most relevant to the subject topic being taught.
HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?
If you acquire an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs of this course, this loan will be written off on completion of a degree.
Additional Costs: You will be required to purchase a laboratory coat and safety goggles for practical activities at a cost of £20. You will also need a scientific calculator.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Upon successful completion of the course, you will hold a level 3 qualification, recognised by many universities for entry onto relevant undergraduate degree programmes. In previous years, former students have progressed to university to study for careers in Midwifery, Pharmaceuticals, Dietetics, Biomedical Science, Dental Nursing, Environmental Science, Paramedic Practice and Teaching.
It is important to check with your chosen university that the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) qualification is an accepted study route for your chosen course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You are required to have GCSE English at grade 4 or above with Functional Skills at Level 2 also accepted. You will also benefit from having GCSE maths at grade 4 or above, with the acceptance of Functional Skills at Level 2, as well as GCSE Science.
