This course is ideal for those looking to learn basic cake decorating skills, through demonstrations of techniques by an experienced tutor.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Throughout the course you will learn a range of skills and techniques, including:
Piping techniques
Icing a dummy cake and rope edging
Flooding pictures on a dummy
Basic sponge and fruit cake recipes
Preparing, layering and icing a sponge cake
Decorating a dozen cupcakes
Decorating a chocolate box shaped cake
Modelling seasonal items
Almond pasting a fruit cake
Decorating a seasonal fruit cake
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
You will be shown various techniques through demonstration and then put them in to practice with the guidance of the experienced professional tutor, who runs her own business.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
There are no exams in this course but your progress will be monitored by our experienced tutor who will offer advice on how to improve and develop your skills and techniques.
HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?
The costs of this course is £120.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
If you have mastered the basic techniques on this course you may have an opportunity to study on the advanced course. The tutor will discuss this with you at the end of your course.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
To get the most out of your course, we recommend that learners bring the following basic toolkit:
Palette knives (small and large)
Thick and thin cake brushes
Non-stick rolling pin
Piping bags
Tubes and nozzles (recommended brands include PME, Wilton, or Bekenal)
Bread knife or carving knife
Small sharp knife
Scissors
Smoother
Small plastic food bags
Icing sugar
Turntable (if you have one)
Please note:
If you are not currently in a position to purchase your own toolkit/equipment, don’t worry — you will have access to all the essential equipment and tools during your lessons. However, please be aware that these items will remain in the classroom and cannot be taken home.
