Course Overview

Psychology is the scientific study of minds and behaviour: it forms part of our everyday lives. This course provides an introduction to a range of psychological perspectives that allow for progression into a range of careers and higher education courses.

You will look at human psychology in terms of how psychological research and concepts can explain gender, aggression and consumer behaviour as well as how humans behaviour in social contexts. You will explore psychological approaches and theories related to lifestyle choices, unhealthy behaviours and behaviour change. Through investigating criminal behaviour, you will learn how offender profiles are created using different techniques. You will also conduct your own research project developing the knowledge, understanding and skills to apply scientific processes and use psychological research methodologies.

There will be a mixture of practical and theory based lessons where you will explore psychological concepts and test theories with case studies and your own research.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

This course is worth up to 56 UCAS points (depending on your grades). When combined with other subjects from our combined studies package you will have the opportunity to gain up to 168 UCAS points (the equivalent of three A-Levels at A*).

Progression to any higher education courses linked to social sciences, business, sport, law and health.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

This course can only be studied as part of a combined studies package. It will run subject to sufficient student numbers and availability of government funding.

As part of the Combined Studies package, Psychology complements studies in Sport, Criminology and Science.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need five grade 5s including English and maths. This course can only be studied as part of a combined studies package.
