This course is an ideal introduction to bricklaying. Under the guidance of our industry experienced tutors you’ll develop the key practical skills and knowledge needed to build block, brick and cavity walls. The majority of this course is delivered in our Construction Centre which has been developed with the Eric Wright Learning Foundation to replicate a real construction site, so you gain a real insight into the industry.
You will learn basic block and basic brick laying skills and how to carry out basic cavity walling. We will also teach you the importance of safe working practices, communicating with others, working out quantities and how to work with building site information.
You will be taught in our Construction Centre by our tutors who are experts with real industry experience. There is a mixture of practical work and classroom based activities on this course.
You will be assessed through practical assessments and a portfolio of work.
You can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying at Preston’s College. Your tutor will discuss your progression options with you at the end of your course.
During the practical aspect of the programme you will be required to bring your own personal protective equipment in the form of safety boots and a high visibility vest as you will be working within a workshop environment for most of the time. Although all other tools and equipment are provided you will need to purchase stationery items for use in the class room such as folders, pens, rulers etc.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, you should have a basic level of English, a keen interest in the subject and motivation to start a career in construction. Please get in touch with our Advice Centre to discuss your suitability for the course.
