Jet2.com donates £60,000 of equipment to Preston College’s Aeronautical Department
Jet2.com has donated £60,000 worth of aeronautical equipment to Preston College, enabling its students to learn and train using some of the most up-to-date and relevant aircraft equipment.
The donation, from the UK’s third largest airline, consisted of U/S 737-300 landing gear and will be used by students from the college’s Aeronautical Engineering course in practical lessons, to help them put their skills and knowledge to the test.
Thanks to this significant donation from Jet2.com, students will be able to study aircraft equipment first-hand, rather than relying on manuals which they have had to do previously.
Chris Hubbard, Director of Engineering at Jet2.com, said: “We are delighted to be able to make this substantial donation of aircraft parts to Preston College. As the UK’s third largest airline, it is important to support the next generation of engineers. We recognise the significant impact that receiving practical experience outside of the classroom has on the students learning and hope that our donation helps to strengthen their knowledge.”
Neil Tomlinson, Tutor at Preston College, added: “Part of the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering requires the learners and apprentices to examine the structure of an aircraft undercarriage; prior to receipt of this donation, we relied on our learners reading manuals and trying to visualise the components, now they can see the real thing.

He adds: “The social value and community benefit by this kind donation is very impactful and enables Preston College to carry on training our learners to be the most employable when they leave college and ready for industry.”
Preston College has seen a surge in the number of applicants for its popular Aeronautical Engineering course. The two-year course allows students to learn, develop and practice the knowledge and skills required for employment in the Aeronautical Engineering sector through a combination of classroom activities and practical lessons. This donation means the college is now able to provide training aids to the learners and support the education of future aeronautical professionals.
