We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Trainee Lab Technician to join our pavement testing team. In this entry-level position you will support the testing and assessment of materials taken from roads, including asphalt, cement, and other construction materials. Your responsibilities will include accurately inputting test data into Excel, assisting with material handling, and taking part in laboratory testing procedures. You will regularly communicate with engineers, lab technicians, and other internal teams to ensure results are recorded correctly and workflows run smoothly. This role provides hands-on experience in materials testing, data management, and technical collaboration within a civil engineering environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample Preparation: Assist in collecting, preparing, and organizing pavement material samples (e.g., asphalt, concrete) for laboratory testing.
  • Testing Procedures: Support laboratory staff in conducting pavement-related tests, such as density, strength, moisture content.
  • Data Recording and Analysis: Accurately record test results, observations, and data into laboratory information systems, ensuring data quality and compliance with laboratory protocols.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment used for pavement testing (e.g., sieves, compression machines, ovens).
  • Quality Control: Participate in quality control procedures to ensure accurate and consistent test results, including helping with calibration and validation of equipment.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Training Participation: Engage in training programs to learn specific pavement testing methods, safety standards, and equipment usage.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in laboratory environments, which may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to [insert weight, e.g., 50 pounds].
  • May involve standing for extended periods and using specialized equipment.
