This programme is ideal for those looking to develop foundation level knowledge in light vehicle maintenance of cars and vans. The introductory course aims to enable you to carry out basic routine maintenance to prepare your vehicle for an MOT, for example. If you are enthusiastic to learn about improving your vehicle and the best ways to maintain it, this course is an ideal introduction to help you understand the key maintenance principles.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will develop a foundation of knowledge in light vehicle maintenance at a basic level, covering both cars and vans. The introductory programme will include:

  • Routine maintenance: Understanding tyre pressures, tightening torque, and oil levels and quantities.
  • Basic electrical systems: Understanding bulbs, switches and currents present in light vehicles.
  • Identifying different tools and their uses for maintenance work.
  • Health and safety: these procedures are covered throughout the programme.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught by industry experienced tutors who will support you throughout your studies, helping you develop your understanding of basic light vehicle maintenance through the different components of the course. 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

During the programme, your units of study will require you to write up a portfolio of what you have learnt and the work you have completed to achieve the award.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

This course is an introductory programme to equip you with basic knowledge of maintaining your car/van. If you wish to develop the knowledge and skills you have learnt on this course to pursue a career in the automotive industry, you can further your training on our Level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance course. You will cover similar topics at a more in depth level, to further your knowledge of light vehicle maintenance. 

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You will be required to wear safety boots and appropriate overalls for the duration of the programme for health and safety measures.
