This course provides an ideal introduction to electrical installation and is an ideal first step for those considering training to become a qualified electrician. 

The programme covers a host of topics, with a focus on all types of circuits, exploring both theory and regulations.

All students are required to attend the college campus for one evening per week, with an additional minimum of three hours study per week undertaken via the college's virtual learning environment.

 

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will study a range of topics on this course, including: 

• Electrical science

• Installation of wiring systems

• Communication within the building services/engineering industry

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will study in our on-campus, purpose built Construction Centre, with an addition three hours per week (minimum) of learning undertaken via our dedicated virtual learning environment, Canvas.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Upon successful completion of this course, you could progress onto the Level 2 Technical Cerificate in Electrical Installation. Alternatively, you could also apply for an electrical apprenticeship or employment as an Electricians Mate within the building services industry. 

Please note that successful completion of this qualification does not make you a fully qualified Electrician.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Upon successful completion, you will achieve the City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To undertake this course you must hold at least a Level 1 Functional Skills or GCSE equivalent in English and Maths.

If you do not have an English or Maths qualification, you will be required to undertake an assessment. To progress on to higher level study in this field or to progress into industry, Maths and English qualifications will be required.
