This qualification aims to provide you with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym. During the qualification you will study a selection of modules, adopting a combination of face to face delivery and home study. The emphasis is on practical delivery where possible, as you would expect.
The course explores a variety of modules, including principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness, planning and instructing exercise and gym based health and safety.
This Level 2 qualification is often the minimum requirement needed to secure employment within the fitness industry.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Modules studied on this Level 2 course include:
Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness
Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors
Health and safety in the fitness environment
Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change
Planning and instructing gym-based exercise
To achieve the full qualification, all five modules must be passed. Upon successful completion of the course, you will have developed the skills and confidence required to conduct client and group inductions in a gym-based environment alongside the ability to plan, instruct and supervise safe and effective exercise sessions.
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
As a learner on this course, you will have access to a first class learning environment, affording use of a range of classrooms, a learning centre, a fully functioning fitness suite and a strength and conditioning area. The fitness suite and functional zone are home to masses of Cybex equipment including treadmills, Arc cross trainers, rowing machines and a variety of weight machines.
You will have free access to the fitness suite when timetabled and the opportunity to purchase learner membership, should you wish to use the facilities outside of the timetable, at a heavily discounted price.
Working with small groups of like-minded adult learners, you can be sure that you will receive the highest standards of delivery and support. As a typical college day includes movement between theory lessons and practical delivery, most learners generally find it easier and more comfortable to wear practical gym kit, however, changing rooms are available if required.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment methods vary by module but typically include theory papers, worksheets, assignments and observations of practical delivery. To achieve the full qualification, all modules must be passed.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Upon successful completion of this course, may learners choose to continue their studies at Preston's College, progressing onto the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
This qualification is a pre-requisite for progression onto the Personal Trainer Level 3 qualification, and can be studied alongside additional qualifications such as instructing circuits, kettlebells, suspended movement training and group cycling to enhance your employability.
You will need to wear or bring appropriate gym kit with you to each session.
Preston’s College recognises that kit and uniform costs can be a worry, but did you know that you may be entitled to financial support from the college bursary? Full details will be provided in your enrolment Welcome Brochure.
You must have experience of regular gym use and a high level of fitness. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology would be beneficial but is not essential. You will also need to attend an interview.
