This course provides an introduction to the health and social care sector, providing you with an understanding of key areas relating to current practice.

With a range of mandatory and optional modules, you will explore a range of topics from working in health and social care, communication, human growth and development and safeguarding.

Upon successful completion, you may progress onto the Level 3 qualification here at Preston College, or move into employment within the sector.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will study five mandatory modules as part of this course and at least two optional modules.

The mandatory modules are:

  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
  • Human growth and development
  • Safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Communication in health and social care
  • Working in health and social care
     

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

As a predominantly classroom based course, you can expect to spend most of your time on the college campus.

You are also encouraged to attend a work placement, in order to support your learning, of at least 30 hours.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

A range of assessment methods are employed throughout the course, with assessments varying from module to module.

Typical assessment methods include:

  • Professional discussion
  • Learner logs
  • Reflective diary
  • Observations
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Written and pictorial information
  • Oral questions

To successfully pass the course, you must achieve and pass 5 mandatory units and 2 optional units.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Upon successful completion of the course you may choose to progress onto the Health and Social Care Level 3 course at Preston College. Alternatively, you may enter employment within the sector.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To join the Level 2 Health and Social Care course you will need to evidence that you hold a Level 1 in English and Maths. Some experience or understanding of Health and Social Care is also desirable.

You will also need DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance for any placement activity.
