PAINTING AND DECORATING - LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA

Awarded By: OCN London
Duration: 36 weeks (part-time, evenings)
Level: Level 2
Last Updated: 11-08-20

The Level 2 Painting and Decorating course is ideal for those looking for progression from a Level 1 programme, or those already working in industry, looking to gain a qualification that reflects already held experience.

Studied on a part-time, evening basis, the course provides opportunities to study higher level techniques in both paint and paper applications and specialist decorative finishes, including marling and wood graining. Applying paint via spray systems will also be studied.

This is a highly practical course, with the vast majority of time spent in the workshops.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

As part of the Level 2 Painting and Decorating course you will study a range of modules, including:

  • Erect and dismantle access equipment
  • Preparation of surfaces
  • Applying paints by brush and roller
  • Applying standard wallpapers
  • Decorative finishes including marling and wood graining
  • Applying water borne paints by a high volume, low pressure spray system

The nature of the Level 2 Painting and Decorating course means that this is a very practical programme, with classroom learning and written work forming a very small part of the programme. As a result, there are no formal exams. You are required to complete a small work booklet, but the vast majority of time is spent in the workshops, perfecting skills.

By the end of the course you will have developed the skills and confidence needed to decorate any room in the home but to successfully achieve the qualification, all practical assessments must be passed to Level 2 industry standard and a completed workbook submitted.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

As a painting and decorating learner at Preston’s College, you will perfect your skills in purpose built workshops, consisting of individual rooms that contain a cover ceiling, internal and external corners for wallpapering practice and assessment and a small chimney breast, which will require preparation prior to wallpapering. The workshop replicates a live, working environment, providing a real flavour of what life in industry is like.

You will be supported by your tutor, who will also provide tuition and demonstrations on how to undertake technqiues, before you go into your allocated workbay to practice.

There are no formal exams. You are required to complete a small work booklet, but the vast majority of time is spent in the workshops, perfecting skills.

As our on-site facilities reflect industry working practices, you will be required to purchase and wear suitable PPE, including work boots and overalls or clothes that you do not mind getting dirty – painting and decorating can be a messy job!
