This course is aimed at those already holding a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, seeking to take their skills and abilities to a higher level and provides opportunities to work in the fitness industry as a recognised Personal Trainer.
The qualification is a pre-requisite for anyone seeking employment as a Personal Trainer, or working as such on a self-employed basis, with the qualification covering a range of modules, including applied anatomy and physiology, positive health and fitness behaviour as well as an understanding of lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical problems.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This qualification aims to further your knowledge in gym instruction, allowing you to pursue a career as a Personal Trainer.
During the qualification you will study a selection of modules, adopting a combination of face to face delivery and home study. The emphasis is on practical delivery where possible, as you would expect. Modules studied include:
Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness
The principles of nutrition and their application in exercise and health
Understanding lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical conditions
Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients
Programme design and delivery for personal training
Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
As a learner on this course, you will have access to a first class learning environment, affording use of a range of classrooms, a learning centre, a fully functioning fitness suite and a strength and conditioning area. The fitness suite and functional zone are home to masses of Cybex equipment including treadmills, Arc cross trainers, rowing machines and a variety of weight machines.
You will have free access to the fitness suite when timetabled and the opportunity to purchase learner membership, should you wish to use the facilities outside of the timetable, at a heavily discounted price.
Working with small groups of like-minded adult learners, you can be sure that you will receive the highest standards of delivery and support.
As a typical college day includes movement between theory lessons and practical delivery, most learners generally find it easier and more comfortable to wear practical gym kit, however, changing rooms are available if required.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment methods vary by module but typically include theory papers on anatomy and nutrition, worksheets, assignments, case studies and observations of practical delivery.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
To achieve the full qualification, all six mandatory modules must be passed.
Successful completion of the qualification will prepare you for work as a Personal Trainer, within the fitness industry. The qualification is a pre-requisite for anyone seeking employment as a Personal Trainer, or working as such on a self-employed basis.
You will need to wear or bring appropriate gym kit with you to each session.
Preston’s College recognises that kit and uniform costs can be a worry, but did you know that you may be entitled to financial support from the college bursary? Full details will be provided in your enrolment Welcome Brochure.
You must hold a Level 2 Fitness Instructor Qualification and have high levels of personal fitness, alongside experience of regular gym use.
An interview with a course tutor is also required.
