SUPPORTING INDIVIDUALS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES - LEVEL 2 AWARD

This programme provides an opportunity for you to develop your knowledge and skills around supporting individuals who have learning disabilities, better enabling you to tailor your service to individual needs.

If you are currently supporting individuals with learning disabilities as part of your job role or aim to gain employment within this specialism, then this programme will enable you to gain some key competencies that will prepare you for employment within the sector or enhance your existing skills within the workplace.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The units offered within this qualification mirror those offered within the Learning Disabilities Pathway of the Health and Social Care Diplomas in England.

As part of the programme, you will study:

  • Understanding the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  • Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
  • Promoting positive behaviour

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

Teaching will take place online, in the evening.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

All modules will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include:

  • Direct observation of practice
  • Witness evidence
  • Professional discussion
  • Reflection on own practice in real work situations
  • Written assignments
  • Own plans and written records
  • Set tasks

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Upon successful completion you may choose to progress onto another short course here at Preston College, such as Awareness of Dementia Level 2 Award or Common Health Conditions Level 2. Alternatively, you may choose to progress onto the Level 2 or Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification here at Preston College.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

It is recommended that learners are working, volunteering or on practical placement to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You must be able to evidence that you can work at Level 1 or above in English.
