Theatrical and media make-up is an exciting and dynamic industry to work in. On this course you will start your training by learning the basic design concepts and model casting needed to work in the industry.
Please note: This course starts in September 2025. You may apply now; however, applications will not be processed until enrolments open in April 2025. A course advisor will reach out once we can proceed with your application.
Units of Study include: Apply airbrush make-up to the face; Camouflage make-up; Media make-up; Style and fit postiche; Fashion and photographic make-up; Client care and communication in beauty-related industries; Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon; and Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps.
Optional Units: Create and cast small prosthetic pieces and bald caps, and Fantasy hair design for performers.
You will be expected to provide some of your own clients for assessments and complete tasks to commercial time scales.
You will need to purchase a professional kit and uniform which will cost approximately £220. Please speak to our Student Services Team to see if you qualify for bursaries to help with the cost of your kit.
You may progress into employment in the industry to gain experience or progress onto relevant university degree programmes.
You will have the opportunity to experience guest stylist demonstrations, access trips to museums and exhibitions. As part of your course you will be expected to complete a nominated number of hours of work experience which will be agreed during the induction period. This course involves using chemicals, liquids and aerosols which could be harmful to your health if you have a predisposition to certain skin conditions or allergies, such as occupational dermatitis, eczema or asthma.
This course is for progression only; you will need either the Level 2 Theatrical Media Make-Up, Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy qualification and English at Level 2 (grade 4 or above).
