APPRENTICESHIP STANDARD FOR ADULT CARE WORKER

To work in care is to make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives which is at the heart of person centred care. Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

These are the personal attributes and behaviours expected of all Adult Care Workers carrying out their roles including: Care, Compassion, Courage, Communication, Competence and Commitment. A lead adult care worker will work towards aims and objectives under the following areas:

  • The job they have to do, their main tasks and responsibilities
  • Values and behaviours
  • Communication
  • Supporting individuals to remain safe from harm (Safeguarding)
  • Health and wellbeing for the individuals they support and work colleagues
  • Working professionally, including professional development of those they support and work colleagues

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

To progress to end point assessment the Apprentice must first:

  • Achieve the Level 2 Diploma
  • Complete the Care Certificate
  • Undertake a self-assessment in the last month of the Apprenticeship 

End Point Assessment
This will be made up of two main components as below:

  • Situational judgement test (multiple choice)
  • Professional discussion

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

The Apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, competence, skill and behaviours to progress within the Adult Care sector. You may be able to progress onto the Level 3 Standard in Lead Adult Care Worker which may then open up opportunities to progress onto Higher Education.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All Apprenticeships require an initial assessment (including Maths & English), interview and employment in the industry. To work in this industry you will need a DBS (disclosure and barring service) check.
