APPRENTICESHIP STANDARD FOR LEAD ADULT CARE WORKER

As a Lead Adult Care Worker you will make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. You will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control. By providing leadership, guidance and direction at the frontline of care delivery you will be instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of those receiving care and support. Lead Adult Care Workers operate in many healthcare settings.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
These are the personal attributes and behaviours expected of all Adult Care Workers carrying out their roles including: Care, Compassion, Courage, Communication, Competence and Commitment. A lead adult care worker will work towards aims and objectives under the following headings:
The job they have to do, their main tasks and responsibilities
The importance of having the right values and behaviours
The importance of communication
How to support individuals to remain safe from harm (Safeguarding)
How to champion health and wellbeing for the individuals they support and work colleagues
Working professionally, including professional development of those they support and colleagues
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
To progress to end point assessment the Apprentice must first:
Achieve the Level 3 Diploma
Complete the Care Certificate
Achieve Level 2 Maths & English
Undertake a self-assessment in the last month of the Apprenticeship
End Point Assessment This will be made up of two main components as below:
Situational judgement test (multiple choice)
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
The Apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, competence, skill and behaviours to progress within the Adult Care sector. The qualification gained from the Apprenticeship could lead onto University and Higher Education programmes such as leadership and management qualifications.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
Duration: 12-24 Months
All Apprenticeships require an initial assessment (Maths & English), interview and employment in the industry. To work in this industry you will need a DBS (disclosure and barring service) check. You will also need to be aged 18+ and have experience in the healthcare sector.
