Our sports courses are ideal for those hoping to pursue further study or employment in the sports and fitness industry. You will cover various elements of sports coaching, anatomy and physiology, fitness, sports development, leadership, psychology and talent identification.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

Lessons are delivered within a practical environment (Sports hall, 3G pitch or Fitness Suites) or within a classroom, which are equipped with computers, aiding classroom and assignment task completion. Within the practical elements of the course you are taught different coaching styles alongside the knowledge and understanding of a variety of sports, such as: Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Netball, Football and more. Classroom activities will develop your employability skills further through group work, peer assessment, individual based written tasks and assignment completion.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed through the completion of a portfolio, formal assignments, presentations, in class tests and practical assessments.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

This qualification is designed to support individuals into careers within the sport and fitness industry. If you would like to progress to university degree programmes this qualification combined with the Level 3 in Psychology is worth up to 168 UCAS points (depending on your grades). This qualification is relevant to careers in multi-sports coaching, community coaching, football coaching, teaching, sports development, fitness instructing and sports therapies.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

There is a kit requirement for the course which you will need to purchase for use during practical sport lessons and football training. You will need to complete one week industry experience within a sporting environment during your course. There will also be an opportunity to take part in trips abroad, visits and coaching opportunities.

This course can only be studied as part of a combined studies package. It will run subject to sufficient student numbers and availability of government funding.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need five grade 5s including English or maths. This course can only be studied as part of a combined studies package.
