Our sports, fitness and well-being courses are ideal for those hoping to pursue further study or employment in the sports and fitness industry. You will cover various elements of sports coaching, anatomy and physiology, fitness, sports development, leadership and psychology.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
You will study nutrition, practical sport, the structure and functions of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems of the human body as well as the fundamental elements of sports coaching. You’ll also have the opportunity to show your coaching skills by planning and delivering a session at a local primary school and develop employability skills such as interview skills, time management and team working.
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
The course has a mixture of practical and theory based lessons. In practical lessons you take part in a variety of physical activities including participating in sport and improving your fitness levels. Practical lessons may take place in the Sports Hall, 3G pitch or our state-of the-art Fitness Suite. Classroom activities include group work, individual assignments, computer based tasks and written work.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed through the completion of a portfolio, formal assignments, presentations, in class tests and practical assessments.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Successful completion of this course allows you to progress to the Level 3 course. Alternatively you may seek employment within the industry. This qualification is relevant to a career in leisure, coaching, sports development and teaching.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
You will need to purchase a college kit to use during practical sessions. You will need to complete a work placement during your course. You will also have the opportunity to take part in trips, visits and residentials.
You need four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English Language and Maths. You’ll also need to be willing to develop coaching skills by carrying out voluntary work in the community.
