SPORT - LEVEL 2

Level: Level 2

This Level 2 in Sports qualification is ideal for those pursing further study or employment in the sports and fitness industry. You will cover various elements of practical sport and have the opportunity to gain work experience through our partnership with Preston North End Community and Education Trust. Your work placement gives you the chance to demonstrate your coaching skills by planning and delivering a sports session to a group of young people during half-term camps and local primary schools. 

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will study units such as anatomy and physiology, pratical sport and nutrition. Your anatomy and physiology unit will give you an insight into the human body and how it assists us during sporting activities. The practical sport unit gives you an opportunity to play a variety of sports and analyse your own performance using different forms of analysis. For learners with a keen interest in further developing their career opportunities in the fitness industry industry, nutrition and diet plans alongside fitness training will be covered in the nutrition unit. 

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

Lessons are delivered within a practical environment (Sports hall, 3G pitch or Fitness Suites) or within a classroom, which are equipped with computers, aiding classroom and assignment task completion. Within the practical elements of the course you are taught different coaching styles alongside the knowledge and understanding of a variety of sports, such as: volleyball, badminton, basketball, netball, football and more. Classroom activities will develop your employability skills further through group work, peer assessment, individual based written tasks and assignment completion.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Successful completion of this course allows you to progress to the Level 3 course. Alternatively you may seek employment within the industry. This qualification is relevant to a career in leisure, coaching, sports development and teaching.

Following the completion of your Level 2, there is an opportunity to progress onto our Level 3 Sport course. This is a two year programme, which will enable your progression into university. Alternatively you may seek employment within the industry, there are apprenticeships available in sport - you view these on the Government's Apprenticeship site.

This qualification is relevant to a career in leisure, coaching, sports development and teaching.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

There is a kit requirement for the course which you will need to purchase for use during practical lessons and football training.

You will need to complete one week industry experience within a sporting environment during your course.

If you do not achieve a grade 4 in English and maths you will be required to study them, this will be embedded into your timetable. 

There are opportunities to study additional qualifications alongside this course depending on your timetable.

You will also be able to take part in trips abroad, visits and coaching opportunities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You need four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including at least one in English Language and maths. The other subject should have a minimum of grade 2. You will also be required to attend an interview to discuss your suitability for the course and be willing to develop coaching skills by carrying out voluntary work in the community.
