Our sports course is ideal for students looking to progress into further study or gain employment within the sports, fitness and personal training industry. This qualification helps students develop essential employability skills, including cognitive and problem‑solving abilities through critical thinking, as well as key interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, negotiation, resilience, and adaptability.
Students will also have the opportunity to enhance their practical skills in a gym and fitness environment, gaining confidence in identifying and using a variety of equipment, while also taking on opportunities to plan and lead both 1‑1 and group training sessions.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
Lessons are delivered in a range of practical environments, including the sports hall, 3G pitch, and fitness suites, as well as in classrooms equipped with computers to support both lesson activities and assignment completion. Throughout this qualification, students develop an understanding of effective client communication, session planning and delivery, and the business aspects of working within the fitness industry.
Classroom-based activities further enhance employability skills through group work, peer assessment, independent written tasks, and structured assignment work, ensuring students build the confidence and competencies required for success in the sector.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Students are assessed through the completion of a portfolio, formal assignments, presentations, research projects and practical assessments.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Successful completion of this course enables students to progress into employment as a Personal Trainer or continue their studies in Higher Education, with opportunities to further explore Health and Fitness, Diet, and Wellbeing. This qualification provides a strong foundation for students aspiring to pursue careers within the ever‑growing fitness industry.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
There is a kit requirement for the course which you will need to purchase for use during practical lessons. You will need to complete one week industry experience within a fitness environment during your course. There will also be an opportunity to take part in trips abroad and visits.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You need five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 9-4 including a GCSE at grade 4 in English and maths (or a minimum of grade 3 in one). You’ll also need to be willing to develop your fitness skills further by carrying out voluntary work in the community.
