On this course you'll be introduced to the artistry of hair, make-up and special effects make-up for the stage. Working closely with our Performing Arts department and through external work experience you will develop and refine your creative skills and build your portfolio of work.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Units may include photographic make-up, health and safety, client consultation, how to create an image based on a theme, dressing hair, body art, themed face painting, plaiting and twisting hair, make-up application and casulty simulation.

You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the skin, health and safety, hair and media make-up products and equipment. You will also develop a range of technical skills in skin preparation, make-up application and a range of basic technical hairdressing skills.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught by experienced tutors who have worked and continue to work in the industry. You will have practical and theory based sessions to develop your skills.

There will be some external assessments and classroom and workbased activities that contribute to the development of your portfolio.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

You can progress to the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up. Completion of the Level 3 qualification makes you eligible to become a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC), and get insurance to practice professionally.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You will need to purchase a professional kit and you can apply for a bursary to help with these costs.
