This is a technical level qualification aimed at developing the knowledge, understanding and technical skills needed for a career as a sports massage therapist, either employed or self-employed, working in a pre, post, intra and maintenance context, with non-pathological tissue. You’ll learn how to develop strategies for treatments covering planning, preparation, application and evaluation stages.
You will study the theory underpinning the practice of sports massage therapy, including functional anatomy and physiology, nutrition, classification of sports injuries and the stages of healing. Alongside your theory you’ll develop skills and techniques in a range of sports massage methods for uninjured clients and evaluate massage strategies and methods to inform your future practice.
You will have a mixture of theory and practical sessions – developing your knowledge and putting it into practice! There is also additional work and practice to be completed outside of college. Whilst in college you’ll have the opportunity to work with ‘real’ clients in our Sports Massage Clinics held in the iSTEM Centre.
