Returning to education, especially if you’ve been out of a learning environment for a while, can be daunting!

Our BRAND NEW ‘Step Back into Education’ programme provides a supportive environment, where you’ll learn essential skills, rebuild confidence and advance your personal development. Overcome challenges, explore new learning technologies, and discover the resources available at Preston College for adult learners.

From building personal resilience and perseverance, to developing essential life skills that go beyond the classroom, this course will support you to make a smooth transition back into education, allowing you to explore first-hand the range of vocational courses on offer, and the opportunity to try any courses you are interested in, to make sure the course is for you!

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will study a range of knowledge units exploring the following areas:

  • Developing Resilience and Perseverance

Learn to navigate life's challenges with resilience, perseverance and confidence! You’ll learn how to develop and build your emotional resilience, to identify situations that may require personal resilience and develop strategies you can use to enable you to thrive both personally and professionally.

  • Behaviours and standards

Learn how to identify, understand and contribute to a positive working environment. Developing essential life skills that go beyond the classroom, you’ll engage in activities that will support you to recognise areas for personal growth and development, and the ability to work effectively with others. You’ll build a strong foundation for both your academic and personal progression, and learn how to make informed choices about behaviour and values in the workplace. You will also gain mentorship support and techniques to help you develop a support network to help you achieve your future goals.

  • Building Positive Relationships

Understand how to build positive relationships in your day-to-day life, in the classroom, as well as in the workplace, whilst appreciating cultural and personal differences. You’ll learn how to set boundaries, understand how differences can impact the way you form positive relationships, and also gain tips and techniques on how to keep these relationships positive into the future.

  • Developing Transferable Skills and Qualities

Learn how to identify, develop and showcase your skills, which will support you to progress onto further study of your choice, and ultimately enhance your future career opportunities. You’ll identify transferrable skills, that are used on a daily basis, and spend time looking at courses and vocational areas that match your current skill set, and that you may want to progress onto in the future.

  • Problem Solving, Communication and Team Work

Develop critical thinking skills and the ability to tackle challenges head-on; equipping you with a robust toolkit of problem-solving strategies that are invaluable both in and out of the classroom. You’ll develop essential communication skills, learning how to articulate ideas, listen actively and how to work as part of a team. You’ll engage in hands-on tasks and learn how to apply problem-solving and teamwork concepts that can also be applied to you studies and in the real world.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This programme will use various methods to track your progress including; written reflections, peer discussions, team projects, group activities, poster presentations and quiz questions.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Upon completion of the programme, you will liaise with one of our Recruitment and Careers Advisors who will discuss your options to progress on to a further vocational programme of study.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no formal entry requirements for this programme. English qualifications are not required for direct entry on to this programme, however, you will need to possess proficient English skills that will enable you to fully participate in all aspects of your learning and successfully complete your programme.

Your level of English skills will be assessed during the application process and will be determined by any previously obtained qualifications or via an English skills check, where appropriate.
