Designed for aspiring and practising managers, this qualification is ideal if you are ready to develop as a leader, gain a recognised management qualification and prepare for greater responsibility.
You may be an experienced team leader looking to progress into your first management role, or you may already manage people but have had little or no formal leadership and management training.
The Development pathway goes beyond simply building practical management skills. You will explore what effective leadership looks like, develop a greater understanding of your own approach to leading others and discover contemporary leadership theories and approaches that can help you become a more confident and capable manager.
Through a combination of core and optional units, you will develop your ability to lead and motivate people, communicate effectively, manage performance, resolve challenges, make informed decisions and lead through change.
By completing the qualification, you will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, behaviours and confidence to become the leader you want to be, while gaining an industry-recognised ILM qualification to support your future career progression.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The qualification combines the mandatory Developing Effective Leadership Skills unit with the following units:
Managing conflict
Developing an effective team
Effective communication in an organisational context
Supporting others and managing their performance
Problem solving and decision making within an organisational context
Leading Projects
Change management within an organisational context
Together, these units will help you develop a broader understanding of leadership and give you practical approaches that you can take back into your current or future management role.
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
This qualification is delivered on-site at Preston College, giving you the opportunity to step away from the day-to-day workplace and focus on your own leadership and professional development.
Through tutor-led sessions, discussion, activities and opportunities to share experiences with other aspiring and practising managers, you will explore leadership and management principles and consider how they can be applied within different workplace situations.
The course combines leadership theory with practical application, helping you translate what you learn in the classroom into greater confidence and effectiveness as a manager.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will complete assignments throughout the qualification, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of leadership and management and consider how your learning can be applied in practice.
You will build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your knowledge, understanding and development throughout the programme.

Successful completion of the ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management Development can help you prepare for your next step in management, strengthen your capabilities within an existing role or support your progression towards greater leadership responsibility.
You may also choose to continue your professional development by progressing to the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management Development pathway.

You will complete a Skills Scan before starting the programme to ensure the qualification is appropriate for your experience and development needs.
You should currently have management or team leadership responsibilities, or be aspiring to progress into a role where you will have these responsibilities.
