PLASTERING & DRY LINING - LEVEL 1 & 2

You will start by learning the very basics of plastering which will include health and safety, tools, equipment and mixing materials. The skills acquired include being able to prepare background surfaces, repair damaged walls, plaster areas and produce finished surfaces using a variety of techniques and materials.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Level 1
You will learn the importance of safe working practices, effectively communicating with others and you will learn about up to date and relevant industry techniques, tools, materials and equipment by practising how to mix, and plaster with both solid block and plasterboard backgrounds. At the end of the Level 1 course you will have achieved the following qualifications: 

  • Entry level 3 in Construction Careers
  • Level 1 Award in Health & Safety
  • CSCS Approval
  • Level 1 Certificate in Plastering

Level 2 OCNLR Certificate in Plastering (Progression Only)

You will be introduced to modern metal furring wall and ceiling systems and develop your practical skills by plastering ceiling areas. You will also learn modern and traditional external rendering techniques, materials and how to create quality external finishing. You will be able to develop your learning through work experience with an employer.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

The course is mainly practical and will be taught in a purpose built plastering workshop. You will be taught the underpinning knowledge in the classroom.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of each level you can progress to the next level or seek employment as an Apprentice to complete your training. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

There are opportunities to demonstrate your skills and abilities through SkillBuild and other related competitions. You will need your own personal protective equipment including safety boots (you must have these on your first day) and work wear clothing. Although all other tools and equipment are provided, you will need to purchase stationery items for use in the classroom.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

At Level 1 you need a profile of mainly 2s (Es) at GCSE including maths and English Language. Level 2 is progression from Level 1 only.
