Our ESOL course is aimed at students who have zero or little English and need to improve their English speaking, listening, reading and writing. We have three programmes which cater for the different levels of English. Our programmes are up to 20 hours and includes maths, work experience and personal development. You would also have the opportunity to participate in sports, enrichment activities and different trips. Our programmes will provide you with the training and skills development you need to gain access onto other courses, such as engineering, science, construction, catering, hairdressing, beauty and much more.

Here at Preston’s College we have developed a specialist course which will help you with your English language. We are the only college in Preston that has bespoke English programmes for young people and we recruit throughout the year.

What will I learn?

The ESOL programmes are all up to 20 hours a week. You will study English language, speaking, listening, reading and writing and maths. You will also take part in work experience.

How will I be taught?

We have a specialist ESOL team, which includes teaching staff and a dedicated advisor who are trained and experienced with delivering ESOL across all ages and nationalities. We have bilingual staff covering Polish, Portuguese, Gujerati, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. We also have great pastoral support all done within the ESOL team.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in various ways, including exams, assignments and in class activities.

What can I do next?

Progression onto a range of different level courses including Apprenticeships.

Is there anything else I need to know?

We offer various trips throughout the year, including a mandated sport session every week. Our ESOL students have progressed to higher level courses, including apprenticeships. We have students who have gained employment with various companies, such as Next. We have excellent progression rates to university, but some like to continue their higher education here at Preston’s College.

Entry Requirements

Entry onto the course is done via an assessment appointment with a specialist member of staff, this is to ensure the right level course is offered.

If the start date for your course has already passed we may still be able to accommodate you.
