If you are good at problem solving, enjoy working with people and have a strong interest in IT then the Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship could be ideal for you.

The Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship provides you with the skills to support internal and external customers, helping them to be productive when using technology to do their own jobs, by using tools to problem solve and trouble shoot non routine problems. The Infrastructure Technician sets people up on systems and provides support when they need it, rectifying issues to maintain the organisations productivity.

What will I learn?

The apprenticeship programme is based on a modular series of knowledge assessments and structured work-place development, in line with the needs of the business and recognised standards structure. As part of the course you will be studying the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Networking and Architecture
  • Level 3 Award in Mobile and Operating Systems
  • Level 3 Award in Cloud services
  • Level 3 Award in Coding and Logic
  • Level 3 Award in Business Processes

This will help to equip you with the skills essential to take on job roles such as Desktop Support Engineer, First and Second Line Helpdesk Support and Technical Support Analyst.

How will I be taught?

You will attend College on a day release basis and be supported by a work based tutor who will complete observations in the workplace.

How will I be assessed?

The course is made up of 5 units, with each unit being assessed via an online multiple choice exam. At the end of your apprenticeship you will have an end point assessment which includes a formal interview, a reference from your employer and a review of your portfolio of work that you collect across the course.

What can I do next?

This course can lead on to the Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship programme.

Is there anything else I need to know?

This apprenticeship is recognised for entry onto the register of IT technicians confirming SFIA Level 3 professional competence.

Entry Requirements

It is expected candidates will have English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above or be capable of achieving Level 2 Functional Skills in English, Maths and IT whilst on programme. It is desirable for individuals to also have an IT qualification, have a strong interest or already working in this sector.
