Trainee Teachers Showcase Research Excellence at Annual Poster Conference

Preston College proudly celebrated the achievements of its Year 2 trainee teachers from the University of Lancashire at the annual Academic Poster Conference, held on 15 April.

The event provided an opportunity for trainee teachers to present their research findings and share critical insights into the role of policy in shaping educational practice across the Further Education and Skills sector. Bringing together trainees and professionals from across the sector, the conference created a collaborative space to reflect on current challenges, respond to emerging issues, and contribute to the wider conversation around teaching and learning.

Throughout the evening, trainees showcased a diverse range of research topics relevant to their subject areas. Their work explored how the sector continues to respond to key challenges, considering both constraints and opportunities, as well as innovations in practice. Presentations demonstrated a strong understanding of how policy evolves – from initial development through to legislation and institutional implementation – and how this ultimately impacts day-to-day teaching in FE classrooms.

Attendees were particularly impressed by the trainees’ ability to critically analyse the strengths and limitations of current approaches, while also proposing realistic, evidence-informed recommendations to enhance teaching practice and support high-quality learning experiences.

The conference highlighted not only the academic strength of the trainees, but also their growing confidence as reflective practitioners who are ready to make a meaningful impact within the sector.

A huge thank you goes to the dedicated teaching team for their continued support, and to colleagues from across the Further Education sector who attended and contributed to the success of the event.

Congratulations to all of the trainee teachers involved in what was an inspiring and insightful evening.
