Performing Arts learners at Preston’s College will take to the stage at the city’s Charter Theatre as they recreate an adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s much loved children’s classic The Wind in the Willows.
Recently seen at the Palladium in London’s West End, learners will recreate the spectacular new musical by Oscar-winning screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and Olivier-award winning composer and lyricist George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
The story follows the impulsive Mr Toad whose need for speed takes him on a series of misadventures, with his beloved home under threat from the notorious Chief Weasel and his gang of sinister Wild Wooders.
The performance will also feature well-known characters such as Mole, Rat and Mr. Badger as well as a score of new music and intuitive dance routines.
Talking ahead of the performance, the college’s programme team leader for dance and drama, Anne Markland, said: “We were so excited when we heard that the rights were available for this show so close to it finishing the run at The Palladium in London. The show is so well written and we have loved every part of the process towards staging this production.
Level 3 Performing Arts learner Moesha Ronson, who will be playing Chief Weasel, added: “This show is perfect for families and an audience of all ages – a classic tale transformed into a lively, exciting and musical show.
“I have progressed so much over my two years at Preston’s College. The Musical Theatre course offers so many performance opportunities – it has made me a stronger and more confident performer.”
The Wind in the Willows will take place on Friday 15th June at 7.30pm, followed by a matinee on Saturday 16th June at 2.30pm and an evening show at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced at £11 for Adults and £9 for U16s, ages 60+ and students. All tickets for Saturday’s matinee performance are priced at £7. You can book your tickets online at www.prestonguildhall.co.uk or by calling the Guild Hall’s box office on 01772 80 44 44.
