College dancers impress at lights switch-on

Preston’s College Dance learners featured alongside well-known celebrities at the annual Preston Christmas lights switch on.

The learners, studying on the Professional Dance and BA Hons Dance Performance, Teaching & Choreography courses, performed three support routines for Smooth Radio North West‘s Jo Lloyd in front of a crowd estimated to be over 8,000.

Xanthe Whelan, Rebecca Heath, Olivia Rogerson, Victoria Baron, Paige Royle and Chloe Dixon all braved the cold Saturday night air to help officially mark the start of the City’s festive period.  Jo’s covers included Dean Martin’s ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’, Slade’s ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ and Wizzard’s ‘I Wish it Could be Christmas Everyday’.

The event also featured CBeebies’ Andy Kay, B*witched star Edele Lynch, former Rose Royce singer Gwen Dickey and Coronation Street favourite Jack P Shepherd who plays David Platt on the cobbles.

The event, organised by Preston BID, was sponsored by Preston’s College and helped to provide the local community with over two-hours of live, family entertainment outside the iconic Harris Museum.

Talking about the sponsorship, Adam Sharples, Marketing Manager at Preston’s College, said: “Preston’s College is delighted to lend its support to events that help to bring together the local community and have a positive impact on the local economy.

“The event also provided our dance learners with the chance to experience a live, open air event in front of a large crowd. Providing opportunities like this helps to establish the College’s mission to help make its learners the most employable they can be.”

Preston’s College Dance offers courses ranging from Level 3 to degree level.
