Wednesday 30th October 2019 saw kind hearted staff and learners at Preston’s College hold a ‘Pink Party’, in support of Breast Cancer awareness.
The event, organised by final year BA (Hons) Child and Youth Studies (Top-up) learner, Debi Griffin, saw fellow learners bake cakes, create sweet bags and host a variety of games, to raise both awareness of breast cancer and vital funds for the national charity.
Speaking Debi said:
I wanted to organise the Pink Party, to raise awareness of breast cancer, to make people stop and think about their own health and to raise essential funds for a charity which is of extreme importance to me. The event, involving a cake sale, games and a sweet sale helped to raise £127.60 for charity.”
Kerry Price, Lecturer on the BA (Hons) programme added:
“It’s a very personal story for one of our learners and it’s important to us to support our learners holistically, wherever possible.”
Continuing, she said:
“The learners organised the whole event themselves! They decided to make cakes/sweetie bags/stress balls in their own time alongside working in placement, running their personal lives and studying for a degree. I am very proud of the time and effort that they all put in to make the event a success. The learners stayed late on an evening when they could have gone home at 5:15pm and were rewarded with a whopping £127 for Breast Cancer awareness, thanks to the generosity of the staff and other learners at Preston’s College.”
Well done to Debi and thank you to all those who bought and ate!
