A Message from The Principal – Blended Learning

I would like to thank you for applying for a place at Preston’s College from September. I am really pleased that you have chosen to learn with us, and I am sure that we will be able to support you in developing your skills and knowledge, achieving good qualifications and preparing for the next phase of your life, whether that be in work or at University.

The last few months have been unprecedented, and we have all had to adapt to new ways of working in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Preston’s College has been effective in continuing to deliver for our learners through remote learning, and we are anticipating some outstanding learner achievements this year, in spite of the coronavirus.

Throughout the lockdown period, managing the health, safety and wellbeing of our college community has been our main priority, and as we prepare for the 2020-21 academic year, this will continue to be at the forefront of our thinking as we consider programme delivery and learner timetables.

From September, the college will continue to follow a social distancing policy, using government guidance as a minimum expectation. In managing this effectively, I can confirm that all full-time, apprenticeship and higher education students will be taught through a ‘blended learning’ approach in term one. This means that as a Preston’s College learner, you will attend college for some elements of your programme, but you will also be asked to engage in some learning from within your home environment.

As you can imagine, planning for delivery in this way is a complex process, but I am extremely confident that we will be able to prepare timetables and resources that will enable you to thrive on your chosen course. I am really proud of the achievements of our learners, who excel year on year, and I assure you that our college will work tirelessly in ensuring that no individual is disadvantaged as a consequence of Covid 19.

Over the coming weeks, you will receive a range of communication from the college, designed to ensure that your enrolment and induction programme is effective in meeting your needs. If at any time you have any questions or queries, can I urge you to get in touch, so that we can efficiently and effectively provide the necessary support. Please email applications@preston.ac.uk

I very much look forward to seeing you in September, and hope that you enjoy a relaxing and safe summer.
